There are several places on Earth where you can observe the moon. For instance, you can go to Pic du Midi in the French Pyrenees, where NASA scientists took pictures of the moon from. It is accessible by cable car from La Mongie, France, and includes a mountaintop observatory. It is also part of a French National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also accommodations available there.
Lava Flow Campground
If you’re looking for a unique camping experience, Lava Flow Campground is a great option. Located inside the Craters of the Moon National Monument, this campground has primitive campsites with no electricity or water. It offers camping amid the black lava flows of a lunar landscape. Since 2016, the campground has undergone renovations to increase its capacity and provide more amenities. It also offers pull-through sites, which are helpful if you’re traveling with a vehicle.
You can find 42 campsites in the Lava Flow Campground. These sites are first come, first-served, and suitable for tents and small RVs. Note, however, that hookups are not available. The campground also offers bathrooms and charcoal grills for campers.
You can also stay at Craters of the Moon National Monument, which has 51 campsites. This campground is near the park’s visitor center. Guests should plan to arrive at least an hour before sunset to experience the night sky. Camping in this park is very unique, but be prepared for extreme weather conditions.
The campground is located on US Highway 26. The campground is very close to the highway, but it’s also far enough away to offer privacy. A small group of campers can stay here without having to deal with the noise and traffic of the highway. It’s also recommended that you make a reservation in advance for this campground.
There are several other places you can visit in Moon, but you shouldn’t forget about the lava caves. You can explore the lava tubes on the Craters of the Moon Caves Trail, a two-and-a-half-mile-long trail. It’s easy to get to Buffalo Cave and Indian Cave, which are accessible via the Broken Top Loop Trail. The Indian Cave is the largest tube in the park, measuring 30 feet tall and 800 feet long. There are also several interpretive signs located along the trail.
Taurus-Littrow Valley is located at 22deg N and 31deg E. It was the landing site for Apollo 17’s first lunar mission. It’s composed of feldspar-rich breccia and basalt, and covered by unconsolidated regolith. The area’s dramatic terrain and dark surface made it a good candidate for a lunar landing site.
The Taurus-Littrow Valley is a 2-kilometer deep valley located on the eastern edge of the Mare Serenitatis basin. This area was created by an asteroid impact 3.8 billion years ago. A few hundred million years after the impact, the region was filled with basaltic lavas.
In 1972, astronaut Harrison Schmitt worked next to Tracy’s Rock in the Taurus-Littrow Valley. His camera captured this panorama. The South massif is visible to the right. Images from the Apollo 17 mission show the landscape around the valley.
Astronauts spent over three days exploring the Taurus-Littrow region. During their mission, the two astronauts used a lunar rover known as a Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRM). Their status on the moon is temporary. It will change after the next mission.

White Sands Missile Range
The White Sands Missile Range is a test facility where the US Navy conducts live fire and non-live fire missile testing. It is also used for forensic analysis and evaluation of warhead fragment performance. In addition, the facility is used to test new weapon systems.
The missile range was established in 1945. Today, it covers an area of about 3,200 square miles. It was also the location of the first atomic bomb test. In 1999, a museum was opened on the site. It was later closed for repairs but reopened in 2004. The museum displays information on space travel and the history of the area.
The facility also helped NASA test oxygen compatibility. The facility was nearly closed after the Apollo 1 command module exploded in 1967, killing three astronauts. However, the facility reopened after Apollo 17 returned to the moon. During the mission, Harrison Schmitt, a New Mexico native, was one of the astronauts.
In addition to the Missile Park, the White Sands Missile Range is also home to some great local attractions. The Big Dune Nature Train, the International Space Museum & Planetarium, and Oliver Lee State Park are all nearby. For families, the White Sands Missile Range is a great place to take the kids. The White Sands Museum has over 50 items on display, as well as information about the White Sands Missile Range. The site is also home to the world’s first atomic bomb test, which was conducted in 1945.
Located near Moon, White Sands Missile Range is an amazing place to visit. Its long history is impressive and its mission today is important for national security. The first atomic bomb testing took place on the Trinity site on the WSMR, about 65 miles north of White Sands National Monument. In addition, the White Sands Missile Range was home to many German scientists after World War II. Werner Von Braun, who created the V-2 rocket, worked at the range. The White Sands Missile Range remains an essential part of American military and space exploration programs.
